CrossFit 101

CrossFit.com defines CrossFit as constantly varied
functional movements performed at relatively high intensity.

Transcript You haven't heard of CrossFit? Let me tell you about CrossFit. CrossFit is a lifestyle in which you are prioritizing your health. The ability to do many different things at a high level of intensity. I think it's the absolute best way to help you reach your fitness goals.

All CrossFit workouts are based on functional movements, and these movements reflect the best aspects of gymnastics, weightlifting, running, rowing and more. These are the core movements of life. They move the largest loads the longest distances, so they are ideal for maximizing the amount of work done in the shortest time. Intensity is essential for results and is measurable as work divided by time—or power. The more work you do in less time, or the higher the power output, the more intense the effort. By employing a constantly varied approach to training, functional movements and intensity lead to dramatic gains in fitness.

If you have never tried CrossFit, that's ok! Come take the CrossFit 101 class. This class will teach you all you need to know to get you started on the right foot. After you take CrossFit 101, and you are still not sure of your movements, don't worry! We can scale (or modify) everything until you have adapted, no rush. The most important aspect is to learn to do the movements safely. You will undoubtedly still get a great training session scaling (modifying) everything!

Christine Pereira was unhappy. At 270 lb., she felt trapped. Literally. "Before CrossFit, I was miserable by being in a body that I felt didn't match my inside," Pereira explains. "Everything was impossible. Everything was difficult ... just every day, going up the stairs. I was truly unhappy." Pereira also felt helpless.
